The Stadium of Light is licensed to offer a full wedding ceremony service complete with a breathtaking backdrop and unrivaled reception facilities.

Their dedicated team of highly experienced wedding co-ordinators, which includes their own Master of Ceremonies, will assist in managing and co-ordinating everything, leaving you to make the most of your special day.

Their packages, including all-inclusive options, have been designed to suit all tastes and budgets and are extremely competitive.

Wedding Package details

Whether it’s a traditional wedding or an intimate gathering, the Stadium of Light offers dedicated rooms to suit every requirement and budget.

If you are holding your daytime reception with us, room hire for your evening event is free of charge (minimum numbers of 50 for receptions and 100 for evening celebrations apply).

Montgomery Suite

Our largest suite boasts a stage, dance floor and stylish bar. An ideal room for a large daytime wedding breakfast or to celebrate into the evening with friends and relatives who could not join you at the afternoon reception.

Spacious and versatile, the Montgomery Suite hosts up to 440 guests.

Business Lounge

Newly refurbished, the Business Lounge is a modern and contemporary suite with stunning views across the River Wear. The perfect location for buffets and dinners, with the addition of a Champagne and cocktail bar the suite can accommodate up to 700 guests.


Riverview Brasserie 

A wonderful, stylish and yet contemporary setting, this stunning suite with its private outdoor balcony is very popular for wedding breakfasts for up to 140 guests.

James Herriot Suite 

With superior stylish decor and a private outdoor balcony, the James Herriot Suite is intimate and inspirational. This exceptional suite can accommodate up to 80 guests for a stylish wedding breakfast or 90 as a drinks reception.

The suite can also be used as an intimate venue for your wedding ceremony, accommodating up to 80 guests.

Quinn’s Sports Bar 

Looking for something different? Our Sports Bar is a football-themed lounge, boasting an abundance of sporting memorabilia and a modern centre-piece bar area.

It is an ideal venue for a drinks reception or for that special evening celebration. The room has seating for up to 200 guests but can accommodate up to 550 with disco.


Black Cats Bar 

With a contemporary and modern design, the Black Cats Bar has an impressive capacity of 1,000. The room easily accommodates a disco, dance floor and live entertainment, whilst panoramic views of the pitch give that unique touch for your big day.


Executive Boxes 

Executive Boxes offer a unique location for an intimate wedding breakfast for up to 25 guests. All boxes have a private balcony overlooking the pitch and private bar facilities.


Carling Lounge

A cosy room ideal for smaller and more intimate wedding ceremonies or receptions for up to 40 guests.


Reception Drinks Suite

An array of suites are available for you and your guests to relax in with drinks on arrival before moving into your reception suite. A suite can also be made available for guests who wish to stay after the wedding breakfast.

Civil Ceremonies

You may decide to follow the traditional wedding-day protocol or we can help you to create a very personal ceremony to share with family and friends or celebrate in private.

We offer the expertise and experience to make your ceremony extra special and can provide a package to ensure you enjoy a truly memorable day.

Simply contact us to find out if your chosen date, function room and ceremony room are available and pencil in a provisional booking (provisional bookings can be held for fourteen days without deposit).
